Hardwood v.s. Softwood.. What's the difference?

Hardwoods are much denser and burn efficiently, while softwood trees are less dense and burn quickly - ideal for sparking a fire, but not recommended for long-burning fires.

Softwoods tend to produce more smoke, thus quickly clogging your chimney with creosote. Keep in mind, fir, pine and cypress trees are all considered softwood, so we suggest staying away from firewood made of these trees.

How much firewood is in 1 bag and how much does it cost?

Our bags measure 1 cubic foot, about 6-8 pieces, and costs $10 per bag.

Prices vary based upon the amount of wood, and whether you'd like to pick up your wood, or if you'd like delivery (applicable fee depending on location).

Is firewood considered a low-carbon fuel source?

Compared to coal or natural gas, wood is classified as a low-carbon fuel. The combustion of wood results in a marginal net release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. This is then re-assimilated through the growth of new trees, striking an effective balance with the combustion of bioenergy.
Therefore, transitioning from fossil fuels or smokeless fuels to burning wood can contribute to lowering carbon emissions.

I live in the city and don’t have room for a whole cord of firewood. Can I order from you guys?

City Loggers specializes in our ability to be able to deliver firewood in the city. We sell our bagged firewood on skids, 1 skid is 48 bags which equals to a little bit over a face cord of firewood. Plus the bags make it easy to handle and stack somewhere. It’s excellent for those in the city!

We have a Business Number and are a registered company, not someone just selling firewood out of a truck. Do you guys sell wood for smoking and cooking?

Yes we do. At City Loggers we believe in providing quality wood for your home or restaurant so you can make the best food on the block! Our hardwood firewood is Chef tested and selected for high heat burning capabilities as well as for aroma and maximum flavour.

Can firewood go bad or become too old to burn?

Accepted Answer

Firewood shouldn't be able to age past its usefulness for burning. In other words, if the firewood is protected from insects and moisture reasonably well, it could last for many years before burning.

While typical fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas can't be renewed after their use, wood, on the other hand, is a renewable resource. A renewable resource can be defined as a natural resource that has the capacity to be replaced after its usage.

It's important to keep in mind the idea of sustainable forest management, both locally and globally. By practicing sustainable forest management, we can ensure the long-term availability of wood as a renewable fuel source. Much of the firewood used is the product of forest thinning, which provides room, nutrients, and light for other trees to flourish. Local coppicing minimizes 'fuel miles' by making sure the transport of wood from production to usage site within a distance of 30 to 100 miles, avoiding sourcing from overseas forests.

When is a good time to buy my wood to guarantee that it’s ready when I need it?

It's a good idea to get your wood ahead of time, like a few months before you plan to use it. This way, you can make sure you have the perfect size of wood, that it's well-seasoned, and that it's dry.
